Ayako Uehara found momentum by saving par on her first two holes and converted it into a 7-under 65 for a one-shot lead Thursday at the AmazingCre Portland Classic on the LPGA Tour. After the first lap, Carlota Ciganda is thirteenth, Nuria Iturrios and Luna Sobrón are fifty-seventh and Fátima Fernández is 108th.

In a year in which the LPGA Tour already has eight first-time winners, Uehara is looking to add to that list. The 38-year-old, on tour for a decade, has posted her only three victories on the Japan LPGA.
In addition, she has missed much of the year due to a lung condition that made it difficult for her to breathe. “This is my third tournament. I am very excited and happy to be here,” said Uehara. She saved par twice to start the round and then made five birdies over the next seven holes.
After her lone bogey on the par-3 13, Uehara birdied three of the last four holes to take the lead. Hannah Green hit a 66 despite a bogey on her last hole at Columbia Edgewater Country Club and is second. Meanwhile, Nelly Korda in the group that shares third place, two behind the lead.
Korda, number 2 in the women's world ranking, signed an eagle, seven birdies, two bogeys and a double-bogey. “A day of ups and downs, but it ended on the bright side,” she said. “Overall, I played solid golf.
Maybe he made some stupid mistakes, but that's golf.” Korda is still looking for her first LPGA win of 2022. She missed four months earlier in the year due to a blood clot in her left arm and won on the Ladies European Tour.
A victory would help her return to No. 1 in the world, with Jin Young Ko, the defending champion in Portland, out of the fields for a month to rest her left wrist. With 66, ahead of the American, is Hannah Green. Alongside Korda, at 67, are former British Open champion Hinako Shibuno and Caroline Inglis.
Brooke Henderson played in the afternoon and joined the group at 68 who shared seventh place. In Spanish, Carlota Ciganda is tied for thirteenth place with -3 after five birdies and two bogeys on the day. For her part, Nuria Iturrios (three birdies and three bogeys) and Luna Sobrón (four birdies, two bogeys and a double blgey) are fifty-seventh with par for the course.
She also participates in the Fátima Fernández tournament, 108th with +4 after two birdies, four bogeys and a double-bogey.
