American tennis star Frances Tiafoe described Novak Djokovic as “a super cool dude” and suggested that at times the Serb is unfairly criticized. On Saturday, Tiafoe of Team World clashed Team Europe's Djokovic at the Laver Cup.
Tiafoe didn't stand much of a chance versus Djokovic, who crushed him with a 6-1 6-3 score. “I know Novak is a super cool dude. I like the guy a lot. We clown a lot. He is actually very funny. Yeah, like because I obviously have a great sense of humor and say things off the cuff.
He likes it as well. A super nice guy. What he does for Serbia and Serbian tennis, as well, obviously everyone in that country, he's a genuine dude. I think he gets a bad rap at times. I think he's actually like a really, really nice guy and obviously a legend.
I've got a ton of respect for him. Wish he wasn't so locked in today, but other than that – I probably like him a little less right now, but other than that, he's very cool,” Tiafoe said of Djokovic.
Djokovic routinely handled Tiafoe
Djokovic got off to a great start to the match, breaking Tiafoe twice in the first set to easily win the opener.
After easily winning the first set, Djokovic started the second set with a 2-0 lead. In the ninth game – when Tiafoe was serving to stay in the match – Djokovic earned his fourth break of the match to complete a two-set win.
Djokovic and Tiafoe were playing against each other for the second time. At the 2021 Australian Open, Djokovic defeated Tiafoe in four sets. Now, Djokovic owns a 2-0 head-to-head versus Tiafoe. Djokovic was playing just his first match since Wimbledon. Still, Djokovic looked sharp and Tiafoe didn't really have any chance against the Serb.
