Andy Murray injury ‘healing but not perfect’ ahead of Wimbledon
Former British number one Andy Murray says he faces a race against time to play Wimbledon fully fit because of the abdominal injury that forced him out of Queen’s.
The Scot was looking like his old self and in good form as he recorded wins over world number six Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios en route to a first ATP final in three years at the Stuttgart Open.
However, during the final in Germany against Matteo Berrettini, Murray sustained the abdominal injury which forced him out of Queen’s as he was even unable to serve properly during the final set decider in Stuttgart. .
Discussing the injury and his hopes for this year’s Summer Slam, the two-time Wimbledon champion said there had been “positives and negatives” during practice this week and that the “injury was healing but still not perfect.”
Andy Murray told reporters in a recent interview, “The injury is healing but still not perfect.
“My goal is to try to get to the start line in a good place physically and give myself the best chance to do well.
“There have been positives and negatives this week.
“Yes. I’ve been practising for the past three or four days and have been practising well.”
The Grand Slam event starts at the All England Club next Monday and Murray, who won in 2013 and 2016, admitted that he is still unable to hit certain shots.
“Positives are I’ve been able to practise but there are certain shots I’ve not able to practise.
“But unfortunately in matches you can’t just not hit certain shots. In the next couple of days hopefully I will get the chance to test that and hopefully it will be fine.
When quizzed on what shots specifically he cannot hit, the former world number one replied, “I’m sure you can work that out based on what the injury is.”
The Scot continued as he discussed his preparations for SW19 stating, “I’ve missed out on some of the stuff I’d have liked to do but hopefully in the next couple of days it will hopefully improve and we will get back to normal preparations.”
