World No. 12 Emma Raducanu suggests her back won’t be a problem in Rome as he noted that she is managing it daily. In Madrid, Raducnau reached the round-of-16 before losing in three sets to Anhelina Kalinina. After the match, Raducanu revealed she was hampered by a back issue.

“I think it’s just coming from a lot of intensity and overload,” Raducanu said, per The Guardian. “My back, I’m managing it. Like it’s fine. But it’s just trying to adapt again to the long matches, to the intensity.

“I think that all of the small sort of niggles I’m getting, they’re all related and connected to each other, when something is overcompensating perhaps. Yeah, we’ll see”.

    A ‘loner’ Raducanu

In Madrid, Raducanu won two matches before she was beaten by Kalinina.

Before Madrid, Raducanu split with coach Torben Beltz. Raducanu revealed she likes being on her own but also added she has no problems being in groups. “I’d describe myself as a loner,” she joked. “No, I mean, I do like being on my own, but of course I love being in groups as well.

I can easily and very happily spend a lot of time on my own. I think it’s something that is off-court as well as on-court”. Raducanu wasn’t handed an easy opener in Rome as she drew 2019 US Open champion Bianca Andreescu.

Both Raducanu and Andreescu became Grand Slam champions as teenager. Both Raducanu and Andreescu have a Romanian background and both won the US Open as their first Grand Slam. Raducanu has nothing but good to say about Andreescu.

“Of course, we are both pretty good players,” Raducanu said. “It’s going to be a good match-up, for sure. She’s a great athlete and obviously a champion. She’s got a really good attitude. Yeah, I think it’s going to be interesting”.
