With Monterrey’s season coming to a close, Rodolfo Pizarro has now joined up with the Mexican national team at the official training facility in Mexico City.

Monterrey lost 3-1 on penalties against Atletico de San Luis on Saturday, failing to secure a spot in Liga MX’s playoffs and seeing their 2022 Clausura campaign come to an end.

Pizarro first joined the team in January after Inter Miami announced the season-long loan for the player. He is to remain in Mexico for the remainder of the 2022 campaign. He previously played for the Rayados before his time in Major League Soccer, initially arriving in 2018 via a transfer from Chivas de Guadalajra.

At the time, his $16m transfer made his the most expensive interleague deal in Liga MX history. He went on to become an integral part of the team, leading them to the 2019 Concacaf Champions League title.

In 2020, he made his way to the MLS South Florida expansion team as a Designated Player. He managed seven goals and 12 assists in 46 appearances across two seasons.

Internationally, the player has featured extensively for the Mexican national team after his debut in 2014. He’s featured in several Concacaf tournaments, but was controversially left out of the 2018 World Cup roster. Now, it looks like he’ll be wearing the green, white and red once again.

With many friendly games and the Concacaf Nations League fast approaching, El Tri manager Gerardo Martino is rounding up players who have finished their season at the CAR. Santos Laguna goalkeeper Carlos Acevedo and Leon’s Rodolfo Cota are both currently training with the national team as well.
